About Cornerstone’s Education Programs
For the last 15 years, Cornerstone of Hope has had a reputation of providing excellent clinical services and programs to bereaved children, teens and adults. In addition, we have led the way in providing training on all aspects of grief and loss to community agencies, businesses, universities, hospitals and churches. This page contains educational programs for 2019. Please enjoy browsing our offerings, and then register for these upcoming programs using any of the register now buttons below. Programs are held at Cornerstone of Hope (5905 Brecksville Road, Independence, Ohio 44131) unless otherwise noted.

Frequently Asked Questions
• Who may attend?
Continuing education programs are open to any community professional including, but not limited to, Social Workers, Counselors, Nurses, Funeral Directors, School Staff, Church Leaders.

• What credits are available?
Most programs have been approved by the Counselor and Social Worker Board through provider number #RCS070701. The Nursing Board accepts continuing education hours approved by any other credentialing agency. Please call 216.524.4673 to see if Funeral Director credits are available for the program.

• What is your late or cancellation policy?
Please arrive on time for all scheduled workshops. If you arrive late to a workshop you will not receive a certificate. Partial credit will not be given. In order to receive a CEU certificate you must be present for the entire workshop. Refunds are available if you cancel in advance of 48 hours prior to the program. Please note that any program with less than 4 people registered will be cancelled 48 hours prior to the program date. All participants who have signed up will be notified by phone, and will be issued a refund.

• What payment types are accepted?
Pre-payment is required in advance for all programs. You may pay via credit card during online registration.

Patriot Grief: Understanding Military Loss | July 30, 2019

Description: Program will look at the specific needs of soldiers returning from combat, how to assess for and treat PTSD, and reduce the potential for suicide once home.

Transcending Gender Stereotypes in Grief | August 20, 2019

Description: Researchers estimate that for every suicide, there are at least 25 attempts. Healing following an attempt can extend beyond hospitalization, and involves support from professionals, as well as friends & family.

Description: Ohio is a leader in overdose deaths & suicides that leave countless survivors. Seniors with feelings of hopelessness and thoughts of suicide are not a normal part of aging. Explore signs, strategies and discuss the “Four D’s of Suicide Risk in Older Adults.”

Bereavement Symposium | Frequency of suicide, self-injury and violence in school settings requires preventative and response policies and procedures for the safety and protection of faculty and students. This program will provide first-responders–specifically, school counselors, psychologists, social workers, teachers, administrators, and pastors–on assessing risk. Guidelines will be presented on how to respond to these crises in a practical and proactive manner that minimizes risk and/or impact on the community.

Theology of Grief | The journey of grief is one of pain and illumination. God invites us to position ourselves on the journey to receive divine awareness and inspiration. Explore God’s promises found in the Holy Scripture. We journey into the profound mysteries in the Theology of Grief. Program includes light refreshments. Children’s Grief Awareness Day | In honor of National Children’s Grief Awareness Day, Cornerstone of Hope is hosting its annual educational program for anyone who works with grieving children. Teachers, counselors, social workers, clergy, funeral directors, hospice personnel– all are welcome! This program will consist of new clinical interventions for grieving children and teens, as well as an experiential activity! Program includes refreshments.

Grief Group Facilitation Training | Bereavement Group Facilitator Training is open to any professional interested in learning more about grief and loss, and how to help others. This course is designed to be educational and interactive, with opportunities to explore personal loss histories, and is facilitated by licensed professionals. Group dynamics will be learned through sharing & interacting with other group members. This training is a requirement for anyone who is interested in leading groups for Cornerstone of Hope.
