Grief Support Groups

Cornerstone of Hope offers a wide range of education based grief support groups to Columbus, OH.

Cornerstone of Hope offers structured grief support groups each quarter led by professional facilitators.  Grief support groups have a specialized curriculum according to the type of loss experienced and are designed to support the unique needs of the grievers.

At the weekly support groups, topics related to grief are explored and opportunities are provided for participants to share their feelings.  Each grief support group meets for 8-10 weeks.

In order to participate in a Support Group, you must complete a Client Evaluation Session and pay the $25 one-time fee.*  To schedule your Intake, please call 614-824-4285 to speak with our Program Coordinator. Your Intake must be completed at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the group in order to enroll.

Winter Groups begin the week of January 10, 2022 and our online interest form is now open. Complete form by Wednesday, December 29, 2021. Please note that you are not officially registered for a support group by completing this interest form alone.

Hope In Healing Grief Support Group

This 10-week group is for adults grieving the loss of someone special. Each week we introduce different topics related to your grief journey. Through education, activities and peer interaction and support this group will assist you in coping with your loss in a safe and supportive environment.

Hope In Music Teen Support Group *NEW*

Through conversation and guided trauma-informed exercises in mindfulness and meditation, participants come together to share grief experiences, emotions, and ideas. Working alongside a professional musician/songwriter in the genre of the group’s choosing, they will then collectively turn those conversations into a radio-ready song with accompanying visual art. This group is for ages 10-16 and will meet for 8 weeks.

Young Adult Hope In Healing Grief Support Group

This 8-week group is for adults ages 18-32 who are grieving the loss of someone special. Each week we introduce different topics related to your grief journey. Through education, activities and peer interaction and support this group will assist you in coping with your loss in a safe and supportive environment.

Hope After Suicide Loss Support Group

When a person has lost a loved one by suicide, there are often additional emotions and questions that complicate their already difficult feelings of grief and loss. Cornerstone of Hope offers this group to address the specific challenges a loss of this type may present. General bereavement issues are addressed and particular attention is given to the specific needs that arise when grieving loss due to suicide. Through education, activities and peer interaction and support, this group will assist you in coping with your loss in a safe and supportive environment.

Hope After Overdose Loss Support Group

Grieving a loss due to overdose of someone special can be an emotionally challenging experience as there are often uncomfortable feelings and difficult questions that complicate the already difficult tasks of grieving. Cornerstone of Hope offers this group to address the specific challenges a loss of this type may present. General bereavement issues are addressed and particular attention is given to the specific needs that arise when grieving a loss due to an overdose. Through education, activities and peer interaction and support, this group will assist you in coping with your loss in a safe and supportive environment.

Youth Grief Support Groups

These groups are designed to assist grieving children and teens in expressing thoughts and feelings that are often difficult for them to discuss. Groups are offered by age range to better meet the developmental needs of attendees. These groups will help them explore their emotions in a supportive environment through music, journaling, arts, games, and other expressive activities.

Infant / Perinatal Loss Support Group

The devastating loss of a child in-utero or as an infant causes a grief that is often not well understood or acknowledged by others. This grief support group allows individuals and couples the opportunity to share this loss and begin to heal together. General grief issues are addressed through education and activates while focusing on the specific and unique needs that arise with the death of an infant through miscarriage, neo-natal loss, still birth or other loss.

In-School Groups

Cornerstone of Hope is pleased to partner with area schools to offer in-school grief support groups to students who have experienced the death of a loved one. This group allows students to receive age appropriate grief support in the familiarity of their own school. Group members gain a better understanding of the grief process and learn healthy ways to cope with their feelings.

School grief group counselors are trained to support grieving children and teens by using a tested curriculum specific to the developmental stage of the students. Expressive arts, games, stories and discussion are used to help your students heal. Participation in our specialized grief groups is a safe and effective way to share feelings and learn to cope with loss while building supportive friendships.
