Host a Fundraiser

Thank you for your interest in supporting Cornerstone of Hope by hosting a fundraising event in which the proceeds will directly benefit grieving children, teens and adults in our community. Cornerstone of Hope’s mission is to provide support, education and hope for the grieving. Please read these guidelines and complete the required Fundraising Event Application Form at least two weeks before the event so that we may learn more about you and your event. Only the third party fundraisers which support our mission will be approved.

There are many ways in which you can help Cornerstone of Hope. In the past, our supporters have held golf tournaments, Scrabble tournaments, fashion shows and family picnics. We are open to hearing any idea you have to raise money to allow grieving families to receive the services they need after a loss.

How Cornerstone of Hope can help you
• Offer planning expertise and advice
• Provide a support letter that will validate the authenticity of your event and the organizers
• Provide existing Cornerstone promotional and educational materials for your event including bookmarks and flyers
• Email the Cornerstone of Hope logo for use on promotional materials you provide
• If requested, Cornerstone of Hope will try to provide, but cannot guarantee, a representative at your event
• Provide and mail in-kind donation letters along with tax-deductibility letters for donations made directly to Cornerstone of Hope. (Complete contact information and donation information must be submitted to Cornerstone of Hope by the organizer in order for donors to receive letters or tax-deductible information.)

Steps to Hosting an Event to benefit Cornerstone of Hope
• Review the event guidelines carefully
• Complete the event questionnaire and return to Cornerstone of Hope. If you have any questions or concerns throughout this process, please contact Cornerstone of Hope at 216.524.4673.
• Once your event is approved by Cornerstone of Hope, an employee at Cornerstone will be in contact to offer collaboration, promotional services and help answer any questions you have .
• You will send information about your event to your network of friends, family and co-workers leading up to the event.
• Have fun and share the mission of Cornerstone of Hope, along with bringing awareness to grief and bereavement.
• Collaborate with Cornerstone of Hope to complete event wrap-up and follow up. This includes but is not limited to thank you notes (please see the tax deduction and donor acknowledgement section for details) to vendors, donors, and planning committee members.

Event Approval
• Cornerstone of Hope must ensure that our name is properly used, and that all funds are being handled and accounted for in a reasonable manner. Your event must be conducted in a manner that is consistent with Cornerstone of Hope’s mission and public image.
• In order for your event to be approved, Cornerstone of Hope will give you written permission within one week of your Third Party Event Application being submitted. If your application is not approved, we will be in contact with you within one week of submission.
• Cornerstone of Hope reserves the right to decline association with any event, person or organization when it believes that such association may have a negative effect on its public image.
• All third party fundraisers must comply with all relevant local, state and federal laws.
• The person or persons in charge of the third party fundraiser are responsible for the planning and execution of the event. This includes, but is not limited to set-up, promotion, staffing, volunteers and liability. For a smooth event planning process, we suggest creating a committee to assist in the planning and execution of your event.

Promotion and Logo Usage
• All third party fundraising events must be conducted and promoted in a way that avoids statement or appearance that Cornerstone of Hope is endorsing a specific product, firm, organization or service.
• Cornerstone of Hope reserves the right to review and approve all promotional materials prior to production or distribution. This includes, but is not limited to flyers, invitations, social media and giveaways.
• The Cornerstone of Hope logo cannot be reproduced or used without written permission. It must also not be altered in any way. For questions about acceptable usage, please reference the Cornerstone of Hope Brand Style Guide. This guide can be emailed to you upon request.
• Cornerstone of Hope may promote your event in the following ways: on the Cornerstone of Hope website linking to the event or your organization’s website, on Cornerstone of Hope’s social media, or through brochures/flyers you provide in our entry way. We welcome other promotional ideas you may have, and will take them into consideration.

Sponsors and Mailing Lists
• Cornerstone of Hope cannot and will not solicit sponsors for your event, nor will we provide you with any names or contact information for our donors, supporters, staff, board members or volunteers. It is our policy to keep records confidential.
• Cornerstone of Hope reserves the right to request a list of your event’s targeted sponsors (for cash, product or service donation) when Cornerstone has concerns that there may be overlapping with other Cornerstone of Hope programs. This will not be applicable to all third party events.

Financial Information
• It is highly suggested that event expenses be less than thirty percent (30%) of the total amount raised.
• Cornerstone of Hope’s sales tax-exemption (for purchases) cannot be extended to any event or third party fundraising program.
• In order for you and your supporters to receive recognition in Cornerstone of Hope media and marketing materials, Cornerstone must receive all net proceeds within sixty (60) working days of the conclusion of the event and/or promotion.

Tax Deduction and Donor Acknowledgement
• If payments are made payable individually to the third party event organizer and it is not an IRS qualified organization, the payments will not be tax-deductible for income tax purposes. If the payments are made payable individually to Cornerstone of Hope, then they qualify for tax-deduction up to the fullest extent of the law.
• Only in-kind product or service donations with complete donor information submitted to Cornerstone of Hope by the third party organizer will be acknowledged with tax documentation.
• The third party event organizers are responsible for collecting the names and contact information of all participants, attendees, sponsors, donors and volunteers. It is also your responsibility to submit complete information including name, street mailing address, city, state and zip code to Cornerstone of Hope within sixty (60) working days.
• If you would like to ensure that every dollar you spent time fundraising for, goes directly toward our programs and not administrative costs you can make a donation of stamps equivalent to the quantity of tax-deductible letters that will be mailed. This is optional and letters will be mailed.
• Cornerstone of Hope has applied to, and been approved by the Internal Revenue Service as a charitable (qualified) organization as defined by the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)3, meaning that contributions to Cornerstone of Hope qualify for the maximum charitable contribution deduction under the Internal Revenue Code. Cornerstone of Hope’s EIN is 34-1945499.
• A donor or participant must be informed that the tax deductible amount of their donation is only the amount that is over and above what was received in goods and services. As an example, if a participant pays $100 to play in a golf outing and the cost of the golfer is $75, then the tax deductible amount is $25.

Event Liability and Cancellations
• Should circumstances warrant, Cornerstone of Hope may at any time discontinue the partnership with your third party event. Cornerstone of Hope will forego all profits and proceeds as the recipient, and this will release Cornerstone of Hope and its directors, employees and volunteers from any and all liability and connection to this event.
• All third party event organizers and its donors and sponsors agree to indemnify and hold harmless Cornerstone of Hope and its directors, employees and volunteers from any and all claims and liabilities in any way related to the event.
• Cornerstone of Hope is not financially liable for the promotion and/or staging of the event. The sponsoring organization/individual may not incur any financial cost on behalf of Cornerstone of Hope.
